And we’re back.
Some might remember this announcement early in the year—-
Then I promptly left.
I was being honest at the time, but life happens. A day turns to a week. A week into a month, and soon enough Memorial Day Weekend is upon us with nothing in the rear view mirror but kids’ sick days, Honey-Do list items and 4 months working under self-aggrandizing MDs.
Focus was not all lost however. The Storefront continued and some under the radar projects (longer form essays maybe?) took hold to keep matters alive but silent.
So, a lot of talk but no follow through on the writing. Why the disconnect?
Some people think writing a few hundred words each week is easy. The thoughts just flows from your brain, to your fingers, and they play the keyboard like a virtuoso pianist. But it’s not the case.
Writing is hard. It takes time, focus, and crucially — the ability to deliver a finished product. So I stopped until I could be sure all those factors were in strong supply.
Too many platitudes exists out there on the virtues of quitting , especially in the worlds of gambling or trading—
Don’t throw good money, after bad.
Cut your losses. Let winners run.
Know when to hold’em, Know when to fold’em
and just as many on not quitting an activity —
Winners never quit, and quitters never win
When you’re going through hell, keep going
Success is often one more try away
I tend to subscribe to the former with another common phrase on trading desks coming to mind.
Don’t marry your thesis
It’s simple but useful. Always be willing to change if new information emerges. I will, with 100% certainty, move forward with a plan but also immediately be willing to abandon it if a new piece of information comes along. I was going to do it…then stopped when new information emerged… now still more information has emerged so I changed again.
So the feed is back and queued up to go with topics like “The Bank of Dad” now opening, a few book reviews coming your way and new Thoughts on Markets posts (Lot of thoughts after the April 2025 we just had)
And maybe an answer to the eternal question - If a blog is written on substack but no one reads it, was it really written?
